DAL DHOKLI

Ingredients:

For the Dhokli:1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
Salt to taste
Water, as needed

For the Dal:

1 cup pigeon peas (toor dal), soaked and boiled
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2 green chilies, slit
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions:

1.In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and a little water. Knead into a soft dough. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.

2.Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thin disc (like a chapati).

3.Heat a large pot of water and bring it to a boil. Drop the rolled discs (dhokli) into the boiling water and let them cook for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.

4.In a separate pot, heat ghee over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.

5.Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

6.Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Cook for a minute until fragrant.

7.Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.

8.Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.

9.Add boiled pigeon peas (toor dal) and enough water to achieve the desired consistency. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

10.Gently drop the cooked dhokli into the simmering dal. Let it cook for another 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

11.Sprinkle garam masala over the dal dhokli and give it a final stir.

12.Remove from heat and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

13.Serve hot dal dhokli with a squeeze of lemon juice on top for an extra tangy flavor.

Indulge in the comforting goodness of Dal Dhokli, where soft dumplings meet a flavorful lentil curry. This hearty dish is a treat for your taste buds and a hug for your soul. Enjoy the blend of textures and aromatic spices in this traditional Gujarati delight.
